Introduction: Copperplate Calligraphy (Roundhand style)
Begin by taking the first step
The first step in learning anything is often the hardest. If you stumbled across calligraphy, does any of the following sound familiar to you?
“I’ll find time to learn this sometime!, “Oh there’s always next time?” “It looks sooooo difficult!” , “Hey, it looks easy!”
Over the years introducing countless students the wonders of pointed pen calligraphy, I see students with a myriad of learning styles and every single one of them all have very valid concerns to why taking that first step in learning calligraphy seemed daunting to them.
It was also them taking that leap of faith trusting me to guide them in their journey that made me think of a quote I chanced upon previously about beginners’ mindset:
“Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.”
Being a beginner in a new area is no doubt scary (or exciting!). When you decide to put that trust in us, we are determined to devote 200% of our energy to help to grow and create confidently!

A peek into our final-class project
Our final class project may be seasonal. In July our focus is creating a good writing layout with our new skill. With that, all you need is just paper, ruler, pencil and our usual calligraphy tools!
Our students say…
“Nichole’s curriculum and style of teaching is different from many teachers as she took the time to analyse letter forms and impart the knowledge to students in easily understood methodology and using her signature grid and unit spacing. It’s easy to write for some than to teach - but for Nichole, she’s great in both skills and I’ve been following her for a few years already and each lesson has further stretched what I thought I already knew about calligraphy”
“I enjoy very much learning from Nichole. Her tone is very sweet & clear even won’t feel sleepy when she talking segments related to calligraphy theory. After attending her introduction to pointed calligraphy class, I went on to sign up for the 6-weeks Copperplate program and Letter Variation courses! I have zero knowledge in calligraphy when I began and have definitely saw tremendous improvements in my calligraphy writings and knowledge. If my friends who are interest to attend calligraphy classes I will strongly recommend them attend Nichole’s classes!”
“I’m really new to calligraphy and I’m practicing with my non dominant hand. Nichole helped from the ground up about positioning the paper, holding and sitting posture. And every class went pretty great checking my writing and correcting as I learn. Nichole gives bunch of materials and teaches abundance technicalities of each writing style and she’s so solid with the underlying technical details to the core. I still need to practice though but the intent is she’s open clarify your questions though they seem very seem and fundamental which are quite important. For that, thanks Nichole.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed my calligraphy classes with Nichole! She’s an excellent teacher who was able to communicate effectively throughout my interactions with her, even before I started any classes. She is meticulous with a close eye for detail, which is great for pointing out tiny flaws in your work and cultivating good habits right from the start, especially so for beginners like myself! I would recommend Nichole’s classes to anyone who is looking for a firm foundation in the art of calligraphy! ”
